His remarkable erudition both in the primary sources and in the extensive secondary literature is palpable throughout. “John Meier's refusal to belong to a particular 'school' of Gospels research is clearly evident in this latest volume in the Marginal Jew series. He is the very model of a sober and learned contrarian!”—Simon Gathercole, University of CambridgeThis book challenges that consensus and argues instead that only four parables—those of the Mustard Seed, the Evil Tenants, the Talents, and the Great Supper—can be attributed to the historical Jesus with fair certitude. Since the late nineteenth century, New Testament scholars have operated on the belief that most, if not all, of the narrative parables in the Synoptic Gospels can be attributed to the historical Jesus. In this eagerly anticipated fifth volume of A Marginal Jew, John Meier approaches this controversial subject with the same rigor and insight that garnered his earlier volumes praise from such publications as the New York Times and Christianity Today. This seminal volume pushes forward his masterful body of work in his ongoing quest for the historical Jesus. But they were equally a novel curiosity to many of the villagers they met, who would gather around the open hut provided them at the end of a day's march:"There was nothing you could do without their noticing it; to draw a handkerchief from the pocket caused a craning of necks. Phil and Amy are down-to-earth, and it is wonderful to hear about their experience on The Biggest Loser and beyond. It also helped me really ramp up my workouts, as I didn't realize that on The Biggest Loser they are all basically exercising 8 hours a day, plus maintaining low-calorie eating plans (1,200 calories for gals, 1,800 for guys per day). I am keeping this for my personal library and I have read this book twice. I've found this guide to be an excellent way to identify the dragonflies I find, both for use while in the field, but even more so for those I photograph. Meier's meticulously reasoned conclusion is that only four of the parables probably stem from "the historical Jesus." One must note that the "probability" here is nowhere near so high as the probability that Jesus spoke his troubling divorce logion. Melinda Silva has been my physician for nearly four years. If you want a tab book for Lynyrd Skynyrd, you should look else where.. I found myself plugging along but not drawn in entirely to the story. So maybe once I see where this all is going, I will LOVE this book for what it sets up, kwim? Oh, wait, is anyone even still reading this?? GO. Greene vividly d
